    diagonal vs. banana lay?

I've read a couple books on Hammocking and when it comes to colder weather the subject often turns toward Pea pod type over quilts. I look at the pictures and they all look like they are lying totally in line with the hammock and not diagonally. Because they are totally covered up it's hard to tell anything different. So, what am I missing?

No one is in the hammock in the picture. I suspect that once someone climbs in and gets in the position they want to be in, the insulation conforms to them. Which is why I love a hammock and underquilt so much more than sleeping on a hard, flat pad.

    You mean like this? :

Don't really remember if I was midline or diagonal in these pics, but I have no trouble whatsoever getting as diagonal as I need. But, I can lay midline in some of these hammocks with no discomfort at all. I just move my feet out towards each side, which makes a sort of foot pocket which provides a knee that is flexed like in a recliner. And the PeaPod is the only system that works very well for me while mid-line. With other systems the TQ might not be wide enough at the foot to allow this position, nor are pads, and the fit/seal of full length UQs might be messed up. But works great with the pod. I often switch back and forth between diagonal and mid-line.
