It's a see-through Hodag burrito!
Nice work!
I still haven't weighed it, been too busy getting out and using it all week I camped in a great spot the past 2 nights in the middle of our county forest.
So far, no real rain to test it in, just a few sprinkles - did get some wind up to around 25mph and it held up fine in that - not real noisy at all that I noticed - as far as dimensions, I haven't measured it finished but the shower curtain liners were 70" x 71" and so two taped together should measure around 70" wide by 140" long - kinda narrow and long, so I'm curious how the coverage will be with wind and rain but that remains to be seen...
The grommets seem to be holding up fine so far with the exception of one of the ridgeline grommets (the one in the picture with the prussik that I posted) - that one was looking bad before I even slept in it once and so I took it out, reinforced the area with a lot more tape, and re-grommeted and now it looks like it's doing fine.
I suppose we'll see if the tape degrades, perhaps next year, if so, Mk. III will use tyvek tape - as I mentioned, Mk. I used .7mil painters plastic and not only was that too fragile but it was not nearly as transparent as these shower curtain liners - they are pretty darn clear
I guess I better head to Walmart...
Or Dollar General or similar. Great project, good reminder about an old, old product, fiberglass (fiber reinforced tape. )
Don't throw out the dozen plastic shower curtain rings that came with it. Very good for lightweight toggles or minimum-load 'biners, such as you might clip to a branch for porch mode on your rain fly
Edit:
Advantages over cuben:
- Low cost
- No delay for saving, credit approval, order or delivery
- No concern about de-lamination
- Looks more transparent to me
- Get to start your own threads on cat cuts, maintaining transparency, etc.
