    DD hammock replace webbing

    Hey Guys,

New to hammocking and got a new DD Travel hammock. But want to replace the webbing with something lighter.

I was thinking about replacing the webbing with Amsteel, most likely a loop that goes through, hooking a karabiner through that and onto a Whoopie Sling.

Question is, why does no one do this? Is it because the Amsteel can / will wear through the channel?

    Thanks
    Hobo

Actually everyone does that The Amsteel will not wear the channel and is the prefered method. Though you can skip the second loop and carabiner and just use the loop on the whoopie sling right though the channel then hook the whoopie to your tree straps, couple ways to make that connection. But no need for more than the whoopie and the tree straps to be all you take to the woods.

    Thanks pgibson.

What I was thinking was a loop, made external and passed through the channel. This would leave a loop on either side of the hammock. With a karabiner clipping through the 2.

I take it what you mean with the whoopie is that it is made "on" the hammock?

Might do this as I want to make my own Whoopies anyway.

No I would not say to build the whoopie onto the hammock, as then should you want to wash your hammock you also have your whoopies tossed in the laundry and that can tangle them at very least. Your whoopie should have a fixed loop at one end. Take that loop though the channel and then pass the end of the sling through the fixed loop as it exits the far side of the channel and tighten it all down. This is a girth hitch and the simplest way of attaching whoopies to a channel end style hammock.

No need for an extra loop and carabiner as they are only extra stuff that is not needed.
