and a 10 inch continuous loop larksheaded to the gathered end can have a dutch whoopie hook on it....and as MAD777 points out depending on situation you dont have to use it but most of the time you will.
Another thing some of us carry are climbing slings like these:

They add little overall weight to your system and help with the bit fat trees.
If you carry slings you'll figure out many uses for them.

That is how the setup calls. I tried both.

With what you said, then you could use your tree hugger with MSH and continuous loop if trees are super close. If they are not, then you could use the normal method.

One of the first things I did after getting my Whoopie Hook set up was to re-splice the whoopie. Most "commercial" splices leave you with 18+ inches of "dead" space. This is a great fail safe for the biggest, heaviest of hangers, but you can go with a smaller bury depending on your weight. I have 4 inch buries for the adjustable, and 3 inches in the eye, if memory serves.

This step cut my unusable space more than 50%. This helps a lot, but when you're hanging really close, or when the tree diameter is small enough that you've got extra length, you need to try other methods.

(Also, I have the whoopie Lark'd to the webbing, like in the instructions. The continuous loop is attached to the hammock.)

PRO TIPS

1. Re-splice the buries in your whoopies
2. Make your continuous loop smaller in diameter (yup, this means more re-splicing fun)
3. Skip the whoopie sling completely in these rare cases and use a toggle. Some have mentioned the Marlinspike hitch. You can also use the sewn end loop in your webbing.
4. Wrap your webbing multiple times around the tree (I see you did this in one instance)
5. Sew a new set of webbing straps with daisy chain loops (ala the Kammok Python Strap). Attach your Whoopie + hook on the last loop (or move them to different loops -- kinda painstaking), or use a simple toggle through any of the loops when the whoopie is not needed
6. Add a Dutch Buckle to your webbing. This is another no-knot/Marlinspike hitch replacement. You could leave the Dutch Buckle on your webbing and slide it around when/if you need more adjusting.
7. Find different trees


I try to find trees about 12 feet apart. That puts my attach point at about 6 feet high. For me, this means finding trees about 2.5 paces (close to 6 steps) apart. You could also revert to the hammock hang calculator so you can determine the appropriate length of suspension you need and adjust your hammock appropriately.
