    pitching a maccat deluxe

I am thinking of pitching a Maccat deluxe over a HH Expedition. I believe I will want more space and margin for error than the stock tarp. Plus the idea of the sewn ridge line and not needing to run a continuous ridgeline seems nice and simple to me.

If you are not using a CRL how do you adjust or center the tarp over the hammock? I have been looking but haven't found something with sufficient detail that shows knots to tie all 6 lines to the tarp. Knots to tie the ends to the tree and adjust tarp placement and tension, and knots to tie and tension the guylines.

I know there is a billion ways to do this using knots, hardware, and a combination of the two. There are a million different types of line etc. Zing it or just paracord from Home Depot?

I am driving myself a little crazy and maybe being a little too detail oriented - I just want to decide on a first approach, buy what I need to do it and give it a try. However, it definitely seems like the stock tarp with the HH should go as it looks pretty small to me. Others may disagree

I hope this post makes sense.

i guess this answers several of my questions - not sure how i missed that i guess if you don' have the prusik and carabiner you adjust the tarp placement and tension using the taut line hitch? and i following that right?

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=16650

but my other questions - should i use the same knots (2 half hitches) to tie the guylines to the tarp? What kind of line should I use? How do I tie and tension the guylines off with and without hardware (dutchware, nite ize, etc)

these videos are very helpful - thank you

it looks like whoopie slings sells a crl and guy lines with tension that basically do everything one might want who doesn't know how to do much - although the crl and 4 guylines would be a little pricey

the prusik loops appear to be pretty indispensable - i understand how to tie that knot...but how do you make the small loop for the prusik? does it need to be a different type of line that the main like it will be on?

are lash it or zing it worth the money or will i get by ok with the mason cord from home depot?

line can be the same, but if you can manage to use smaller for the prussick, you'll have better results. ( i get by just fine with 1.75 zing for everything )

i just use a generic overhand not to make the loop - use about 14" of cordage, fold in half, and knot the ends.

many use masons, cheap, accessible --- but others hate how tangle-prone it is.

I have had good luck with Kelty Triptease and Speer No Tangle line for my CRL, Prussics and tie-outs. I found masons line to fray and wear through quickly resulting in failure when used for prussics.

I use pathetic granny knots to tie the lines to the tarp, and a taut line hitch for the adjustable end. Should have paid more attention back when I was a Boy Scout, I guess.

I also replaced my standard HH rainfly with a MacCat Deluxe. First I tried a CRL, but switched to lines on each end. I use a small Nite-Ize Figure 9 to adjust/hold them. I just eye-ball the center.
