Hot Weather Question

Im headed over to the Pinhoti in AL in a couple weeks and it has been so hot. Today, I even broke down and ordered a Kilt so I can go comando but that is another topic. My question is this; Because it is so hot and i am trying to keep my pack weight down, do you think i will regret it if I leave my foam pad home. I normally use it inside my hammock and even in cooler weather Ive never been cold underneath. Im not taking a sleeping bag either and plan to just use a light fleece blanket. The less weight the better.

I have never used a sleeping pad when it's warm. You should be fine if you can keep the bugs at bay.

You will not need anything to keep you warm, it's too hot right now. But you we'll need two layers of something under you to keep the mosquitoes from biting through the bottom. I'm assuming you have a bug net on top.

It is really hot here in SC, but the last two nights have gone down to the high 50's. I think it is better to have the pad and not need it, than to not take it and need it.

Here lately we've had highs in the low hundreds and lows in the high 80s or low 90s. I use a silk bag with the head end tied to the ridgeline with a prusik. The theory is that the silk will wick the sweat off me, spread it out over a greater area, and make me a few degrees cooler due to more effective evaporation. Its probably one of those things that just makes me feel better because I'm doing something. I use a HHDJ that has a double bottom, but no othe blanket or covering. I sleep in jammie pants and a tee shirt and figure that if I ever need to, I can wrap up in my tarp.

When temps go down to the extent tnat we're looking at 70s as a low, I use a surplus Swiss Army fleece mummy bag liner as a top quilt.

I camped a week ago in Oklahoma and used a light fleece blanket for underquilt, a Magellan sleeping bag liner for topquilt/sleeping bag and had a 1/2 fleece blanket for extra warmth if needed. Lows were in the upper 70's. The system worked great.

Besides the heat, and agreeing with the comment about the mosquitoes, one other thing to keep in mind is that the area is in a drought. If you smell smoke, pay attention! I'd worry most about the mosquitoes poking through my hammock though.

Silk bag liner & Dri Ducks poncho (w/ DIY weather shield mod) - I find that comfy from 60 - 75Fdeg with some venting of the poncho.

Remember that temps drop 1Fdeg/400Ft of elevation gained on average.
