Are tent poles any good for tarp legs or are the too flexible. They are light and pack able compared to the kelty's at REI but I am concerned about them flexing too much under load.

If you're referring to propping up one side of the tarp in "porch mode", yes, they should work. I have used old fg tent poles for this.

ZQ is installing (2) pole pockets on my Superfly. There will be loops on each pocket to stake to if needed. Also a ribbon sewn to the ridge line to secure the pole at its highest arc.

I have admired several tarps with this mod and decided to take the plunge.
It really opens up the inside and gives some structure to the large superfly tarp.
This comes at a minimum of weight penalty.

This is just a great deal on poles for anyone looking at this mod.

Pics coming as soon as I have time.
Here is an example of the mod on an OES tarp.

    Greg,

I did the pole mod on my Superfly about a year ago. Turns out 124"-126" (which these on Ebay are) was perfect with the 2QZQ pockets on my Superfly. Easy to trim with a tubing cutter if you want it a little less tight.
I just bought the ones on Ebay because I could not resist the deal (comes out to $18.50 per pole) and also because I think the flat section at the top created by the 2-45 deg angles will create a little more room than my pole set without it. With this Ebay deal you get 2 sets for about what one set would cost you from Quest Outfitters. Use the second set as spare parts or sell one for less than the Quest price and save even more.

    Mowogo,
    My poles came as follows-

    section- arc- section-section-section-section-section-arc-section

So when I bend them there is a nice U shape at the top and the arcs
point down vertically. I am going to test and evaluate. I originally thought
I wanted (1) arc at the top...

Yes the price is killer and hard to resist.

Just got home from my local mountaineering shop and they had some used tent poles from a repair that they gave me. FREE. Guess it never hurts to ask. They are orange DAC featherlites. Now I need to mod them to be tarp poles for my trip to the north shore of superior next week.

    Shopping local pays.
