hi, i am just new to this great site , i am looking for an under quilt and top quilt for my hammock ,maybe you fellas could give me some direction .i would buy used gear as well , i think maybe a synthetic quilt ,i would love a down filled set but maybe a bit expensive just now.

If your heart is set on a synthetic quilt you should take a look at making one yourself. It’s not that difficult, really it’s not.

hi, i forgot to mention the temperature ,which when coming to the think about it ,the winter is just around the corner in scotland.and i am quite looking forward to the frost and snow.so probably be looking for something comfortable down to -6 or 8 maybe

Check out the reviews on Ed Speer's Snugfit. I've been very cozy to 30'sF with the thirty degree model. It is easy to use and fit's perfectly on most hammocks. The cost/benefit is well worth it.

fwiw, 17f is a tad below most three season bags and quilts rated at at 20-25...they can often be stretched a bit with additional clothing or use of sb....traditional approach is to use appropriate gear for the forcast and use emergency techniques as required.... some ulers currently push this preplanned use of the reserve.... risky imho, but each to their own.

the jrb winter nest, old rag mountain and rocky mountain sniveller quilts will all perform well into low teens.

for the cold sleeper or those who simply want more warmth, the new jrb mt washington uq, which is also a snug right up under quilt, with dual differential design, constant height, body contoured baffles, 3.5-4 loft is a zero degree under quilt... below 30 oz.

apoligies for lc, left arm/shoulder still trussed up from sugery....another 4-5 weeks to put up with one handed typing...
