Nano7 - first impression vid and questions

    Hi all,

new to the forum and hanging in general. I' ve just acquired a GT nano7 in an effort to reduce my pack weight. I also have a dd front line which I like for car or short hike camping but the nano is going to be the base for my hike in set up.
That said here is a vid I've loaded up of my first impressions etc and swapping out the biners for whoopies.

Looking for advice on what you guys would recommend as a bug net that suits the nano and what you may have already tested.

for those who have them, how much sag do you usually use ? are you hanging diagonally or straight down?

If you watch the vid, you will see I've found it more comfy hanging it tight and sleeping down the middle.
Problem is, I want a ridge line for the bug net and mesh pockets etc but with it hung taught it limits my places to attach it and the height it will be over my noggin. Suggestions ??

    cheers Brett

Laying diagonally will let you a lie flatter. Make or buy an adjustable structural ridgeline and set it at 83% of the hammock length then try adjusting it longer or shorter depending on how you feel. Once set, the sag will be pretty much the same every time and your bugnet will be supported. Check out the bugnets from Wilderness Logics or Warbonnet Outdoors. If you want to save even more weight and can DIY here is a thread about the half bugnet that covers your upper body only.

To get a comfy hang, I tend to pitch the Nano with a shallower sag. I also prefer the lightweight HUG bug net. If you're going lightweight, you can DIY one for a few ounces.

Contact Papasmurf and see if he might do you a custom bug sock out of nanoseum. You can get the nanoseum from thru-hiker.com.

    Thanks all.
I'm just about to knock myself up an adjustable ridge-line if I can find some instructions on it.
I figure I'll just make the minimum length several inches less than the suggested optimum and go from there.
I'm quite happy sleeping down the middle and diagonal doesn't seem quite right to me
I also find it easier to climb into my bag when its straight.

Rickall, I like the WL one but for some reason I thought it was shorter than the N7 but on looking again it seems it will fit it fine. I do prefer a side entry over the sock pull up type deal.

Dejoha. Light weight isn't a massive driver for me but it's still in my mind. My problem is if I don't keep it in the back of my mind I go overboard and end up packing 40lb for an over nighter So lets just call it ''lighter weight' .

Thanks for watchin SA. Will keep you posted on the net but it may have to weight a week or 2 as I just ordered an AHE jarbridge UQ. Still winter here in Aus so bugs are a little way off. The cold however.....................

Nicely done Denmonkey, I find the GT UL surprisingly comfy. I think it may be that the width allows me to get a bit more diagonal lay and not as much shoulder squeeze.

Do you have the Nano too Dave ?
For the price I'll snatch up a UL and compare the 2.
For simplicity and weight, they seem hard to beat even for the DIY crew.
Although those bridge hammocks to look sweet
