    Top/under quilt question

    Hey folks!

So I've got my Hennessy Explorer deluxe and enjoyed a day in the sun snoozing in a local park.

Now I have a problem. The sleep gear I was going to borrow for an August camp out has disappeared. So I have no sleeping bag and no underpad. My plan was to save up some money and order a nest and sniveller this winter, and just borrow gear for this trip.

Should I bite the bullet and order the 3 season set? Would a basic fleece blanket poncho work, with two shirts a sweater and a wool hat? Won't the nest and the no sniveller be too warm in August?

I would test out what you have now before you go....weather should be fairly similar shouldn't it?
    Good luck.

Good recommendation, however, I won't have a chance to test out until I'm 14k in the bush for 4 days. Great vids btw, it's what convinced me to go hammocking.

If you're looking for a cheap setup for a single trip, then go to your local outdoor store and pickup a closed cell foam sleeping pad. As for a sleeping bag, you could go to your local Good Will/ Salvation Army/ Value village and find a used sleeping bag for cheep. It won't be the best quality or lightest weight, but it will get the job done. Other options are military surplus Poncho liners for top and underquilts.

As for the 3 season set, I would get that, as it is much easier to vent a quilt set that it too hot than it is to try and suck more warmth from a set that is not rated for the temperatures you're expecting.

It is also not necessary to get the Nest underquilt just because you have a Hennessey hammock. Almost all underquilts available from forum vendors can be used on any hammock.

    Cheers

Well, I found out my attempt at sleeping with the basics is pretty uncomfortable. Tried with a pad and found that 20" was not nearly wide enough to get across the shoulders. Without it I found I was below comfort level. So- ordered the 3 season set and a couple of other nifty gadgets. While the wife was unimpressed I'm ready to do this!
