It is great you are getting out there. Lighten your load to make it much more enjoyable (I wish I could practice what I preach ) Tweek your hammock and suspension to get a good comfortable lay. A good water filter is a must and get a 2L bladder to help with the distance between water holes. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

+1 on the Sawyer water filters. Sawyer Squeeze works same way.
I watched a video where someone sliced the top off of a platypus 1L and used that as a scoop to fill the grey water bag - light weight solution.

Good on you for getting out and doing it.
I've been camping and backpacking for many years, but am still looking forward to my first official "hang" in my new GTSB Pro. Never been hammock camping before, other than some unfortunate experiences with a GI hammock.
All packs are too heavy, but when we get to camp we're glad to have them and all the junk in them. Much as I try to pare down the weight, I still carry to much stuff. I'm a gear-o-holic.
    Just keep on keeping on.

    No mention of under insulation?

That would give you cold spots!

I didn't use under insulation, it didn't get that cold but I did notice a cold spot around my shoulders for a while. I was quite surprised as the temperature was around 58-60 degrees. Next time I will use something though.

the cold spot is because of the air- it moves against your hammock, stealing the heat that you're putting out.

So you recomend hammock camping? OK you talked me into it. I'll do it.

Sounds like a great trip. Many lessons learned. Thanks for the report.
