    What's your bridge hammock like?

I just test hung my DIY bridge and I think I made it too narrow...just a tad. Im gonna give it to the wife and am making another for me. Before I get cutting and sewing I'm curious to know the dimensions you've all made and your experience with them....also feel free to show off pics here too

Of the three, I like, and have kept, the Cirrus. The others have been donated.
As a hint, searching on the tag/key word "bridge" or "bridge hammock" will get you most of those published on HF.

    Greetings

I just finished my DIY bridge hammock (Martian Bridge). It started off life as a raw piece of fabric 54" wide and 80" long and I used a 7.5" suspension arc depth. It has 36" spreader bars. I love it and it is quite comfortable in all of the test hanging I've done.

What dimensions did you make yours? The new JRB BMBH UL has a 42" finished width of fabric with it's 31" (between notches) spreader bars.

    Cheers

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure on all the dimensions off the top of my head right now. I know the head end was 54" raw material. I have 36" spreader on that end and the foot end is narrower, but I don't remember at the moment how much narrower. The spreader on that end is 26" I did have a little ripping of the material (1.9 ripstop) at one of the corners as I sort of "bounced around" trying to put it through its paces. I think the problem was too many stitches too close together...the fabric seemed to rip right along the stich (about an inch long. I'm thinking I'm going to do my next one like the Martian bridge likely. Thanks again

I think the narrow foot is a contributing factor to the narrowness you feel. It's fine if you lay on your back without moving like in a coffin, but if you want to bend your legs at all the lower portion of the hammock keeps you from doing that.

My latest (built last weekend) hammock was cut at 49" at the head and foot, with a 6" deep suspension curve. There is a loss of 1.25" on each side due to rolling the webbing, which puts a finished 46.5" under the 36" spreader bars (same at head and foot), and 34.5" width in the middle.

I've pulled the spreader bars in, the distance between them is 6' and the hammock extends a little beyond that. I'm finding this very comfortable for the tossing and turning I do.

The first bridge I made was too narrow. I didn't really remember the dimensions I used. After that I started with a set of dimensions I wanted and found my end result was right. Just winging it on my first one didn't work out so well.

Thanks guys! I just did a test hang with the new bridge and it's GREAT! First of all I made from a different material...not sure what it is exactly but it's been my favorite for my channel end hammocks. And I did 54" head and foot end with 36" bars. Along with that I did a 6" cut depth for the curve.

Glad it worked out for you. Do you have any pictures of the new hammock creation?

    Cheers

    Taken with an IPhone?

Nice work, zipper on how many sides. Hard to tell upside down.
