Looking for competitors to OES 4-season!

    Hello all,

Like many here, I'm now looking for a new tarp (to replace stock HH expedition A-sym 8x5')!

I'm keen on the OES 4-season. I want something I can use all year round, I'm not bothered over a few extra ounces/grams!

I'd like doors, at least one panel pull per side and total size in the region of 10x11', which I'm sure will feel like a palace compared to 8x5'!!!

I think I prefer silnylon to others, though I'm willing to be persuaded

Ideally I'd like a dark green like the HH, if I'm feeling fussy! I have about $140 to spend maximum.

OES seem to be out of 4 season tarps at the moment, what else compares to them in your learned opinions??

    Thanks in advance, experts!

Warbonnets Superfly is a great tarp in my opinion as well (and I own some OES which are great too). You can also try Marty over at Wilderness Logics and check out his Old Man Winter!

I have a Superfly also and must say it is an excellent tarp.

Thanks guys, I love the look of the Superfly! My only issue is that with shipping to the UK, it comes in at $170! Which I'm just not sure I can stretch to right now!

I just found DD Hammocks, didn't realise they're based on this side of the pond! Sadly their XL isn't available until the 19th, the very day I have a camping trip planned to start!!

I'll do some reading and see if DD tarps are worth considering. Perhaps their 3m (9.8') square could work... For £35 ($54) I'm tempted!

I felt brave so I've gone and bought myself the 3x3m square from DD!!!

And 4 rap rings and 2 carabiners to finally free myself from the dreaded Hennessy knot!!

    Bring on the 19th!

One thing to check. I had an OES 4 Season and the biggest complaint was that I could not get the doors to fully close. They always seemed to have a gap. I thought that it was something I was doing wrong and then I went to OES's website and noticed the pictures in their gallery showed the same thing. Now most of the time it may not be a problem but when I used it the last time I had to set the tarp up with the wind blowing straight into the doors. When it started to rain very hard I was getting a little of windblown rain coming in.

I recently purchase a HG Cuben 4 Season and the doors close perfectly. I have noticed that Wilderness Logics seem to close well from the pictures too. So just make sure that what you get that the doors overlap all the way to the top.

    Just my 2 cents.
