    Exclamation Warning !!

While hanging at Slick Rock Creek during Sgt.Rocks 5lb. Challenge, I was using a 1/4'' sit pad inside my hammock. It was the only insulation I was using in 60-65*F temps. that night inside a DIY hammock w/ .73 bug netting from ZPacks sewn onto the perimeter.

At about 0430 hrs. I awoke to my tricep/shoulder area very itchy .. scratching it I noticed my 1.1 felt very coarse, about that instant I attempted to look out and couldn't see through the netting. So I then started to fumble for the zipper on my right side, it was very dark that night, as I was reaching to my RL for my light amongst my confusion, the next instance I was sitting on the ground. Gently deposited out of my hammock after a quick ride on the slide.

Picking my butt of the ground and finding my light reveled that my hammock was now 180 degrees, inverted, hammock body running along the RL, bug netting where the hammock body SHOULD be. WTF ?? Right !!

What I had done while sleeping and turning over a few times, I keep rotating the entire hammock with the sit pad as I keep sliding it back into position under me and awoke sleeping on/in the bug netting. I had torn through the end and it created a slide that politely ejected from my hammock.

I am just fortunate that I was hanging . . 1. Not too far off the ground 2. That I wasn't hanging over a creek or big incline.

So take heed and be WARNED ..

Glad you didn't get hurt. My son sleeps like that and so he can't make it the whole night in a gathered end hammock.

Maybe sew a loop on each side and guy lines to anchor you in place.

I'm glad it was a gentle landing
This sounds like a good argument for an underquilt.

Thanks.. just wanted to make others aware of the potential hazard .. especially those that put the silicon dots on a pad so they don't slide in a hammock

this could occur even with a UQ .. when one is using the sit pad to ward off CBS .. as we all have done ..

sorta' like not making sure we sit in the hammock when we use a UQ and sit down between the two ..only to go tumbling backwards .. yes I have done that as well .. I now make certain the hammock is over the UQ ..each and every time .. just as I make sure the sit pad under me is the only thing I'm moving .. live and learn

Drywall screws to hold you in place. If you get them long enough & you may be able to catch bone (hips, etc). Carrying a power screwdriver would add a bit to your load, but for a secure nights sleep......
Also, I would use some large washers to keep them from pulling through the fabric. Be sure that the batteries in your screw driver are good or you may be stuck.

    Glad you are OK.

Gee that is a new one on me. I toss and turn all night, my hips and shoulders get sore, if I stay in one position too long. I guess I will think about how to prevent such an event from happening to me.

Happy to hear only your dignity was injured. Thank you for sharing.
