Who uses Figure 9 tarp rigging?

I use Figure 9s on my guyouts but switched to Tarp Flyzs for the ridgeline.
I really like the Flyzs on the ridgeline.

Why Fig 9s? Because I'm a noob and did not know any better and because they were in the store and already attached to cord -- just easier than ordering something at the time -- will probably replace them with a few pre-tied loops on the guylines eventually.

The outer layer, the cover, is protective, not for strength. Good example is the inexpensive cord NiteIze includes with some of their Figure 9 kits.

If the teeth of of the Fig 9 abrade the cover, well that is what is there for.

Not so, though with the uncovered line that many of use, whether super-heavy dacron kite cord, mason's line, or hollow or kernmantle spectra / dyneema throw line. So abrasion and cuts from the Fig 9 diminish the strength of the line.

Have tried out the Fig 9's. They work great but was 'scared' to damage the tarp.

Recently I have switched to two 'prussiked' loops with s biners on a continous ridgeline, like Dejoha writes about in http://theultimatehang.com/2012/05/r...with-hardware/

I just use step 2a on both sides, more because I already had the loops on from a different config (tying knots at both ends and using the loops for centering etc.) then any particular reason.

And for the guylines I also recently switched, this time to 'prussiked' loops on the line that I larksheaded onto the tie out point of the tarp. I saw that on a vid here and decided to try it out. So far, the last 4 outings have been super! Sorry forgot whom I got it from but a big THANK YOU.... So no more fig 9's there either....

i used to use figure 9's. Then switched to Dutch stingers and tarp fly's there lighter.

fig nines on one end and a knot bone on the other. knot bone goes up first, tighten with the fig nine, and then center the tarp (with prussics). the two ends are color coded as I pull out the tarp.

easy as pie and about 60 seconds in the rain.

Do you use the prusik knots on the ridgeline and pull them outwards to pull the tarp taught?

I'm liking Dutch's Tarp Flyz better though; they seem to hold my Lash It/Zing It better, don't get tangled up & they're titanium!

For my tarp stake-out lines I use Lash It/Zing It and prussik loops; no hardware. I hate my lines getting tangled.

I do still use them myself - a couple of my ridgelines have a figure 9 on a prusik and going old school, a dog bone on the other. Works great. Not as light as my tarp flyz and hook but never have had a problem.

I made a 30 foot continual Ridgeline for my WB Superfly. At one end I have a loop with a super mini s-biner for and the for tarp attchment I have 2 klemheist knots ( works same way as prusik ) with super mini s-biners at well to adjust tarp up and down line, then a figure 9 caribiner ( need to upgrade to small non caribiner ) to tighten and tie opposit end. Love the set up
