Hello from Maple Ridge, BC, Canada!

After checking out this forum and tent camping a few times (a newbie) via bicycle, I decided to downsize to a hammock and my Hennessy Hammock is on it's way in time for a cycle trip to Salt Spring Island! Reading through your forums helped me make my decision. Plus HH is made locally.

I forgot to say that I put purchased the HH Exped Asym Zip with snakeskins, upgrade to 72" tree jiggers and 70D Hex rainfly upgrade and also a Thermarest NeoAir mattress with Mylar centre that kept me very warm on cold ground and weighs 12 ozs along with a Bike & Hike mummy sleeping bag to keep weight down. I travel with a Burley Travoy trailer and have used it on tent camping tours on both Pende Islands and Salt Spring Island (Ruckle Park) as I cannot use panniers an don't do well with a pack on my back an the trailer feels like nothing is there. It's not for mountain bike trails, but works everywhere else and now I can hang and have the big rainfly and not be stuck in a tent, should it decide to rain here on the wet coast. I have already checked camping areas on the gulf islands and haven't found one (so far) that says I cannot use a hammock and the one I am going to in just over 2 week is managed by a lady who has used hammocks before so she found me a great spot to "hang".

    Hello from Vancouver Island!

    Welcome Traceyge,

I'm in Victoria, new to hammock hanging but definitely enjoy my WBBB.

Are you camping in Ruckle Park on Saltspring?

    Have fun!

To Coffeedrinker - I am going to Ganges this time. I was at Ruckle on the 28-29 of June so want to try Ganges. May go to Ruckle again at the beginning of September depending on work.

    Hello from Victoria

    Hello Traceyge,

This hasn't been a good year for camping for me, so I'm glad to hear that someone is getting out! I thought of doing Sydney Spit Park, but haven't been there in years, so don't know if there are any good places to hang.

I found, much as you have, that there was nothing specifically against hammock camping, other than don't damage the trees and camp on (over) a designated camp spot.

Summer certainly has arrived! Enjoy the sunshine!
