    Georgia Camping/Fishing

Need so advice guys. My buddies and I are planning to head up to North Georgia for Labor Day weekend and do some camping. What I'm looking for is a place for us to car camp on a fishing stream. You know, so we can fish from our hammocks ... Some day hikes near by would be nice. Thanks for the input everyone.

Waters Creek/Dicks Creek area is good. Even has a couple nice swimming holes with rocks to slide/jump from. Dockery Lake is another. 10-15 minutes up the road from Waters Creek is the AT(Neels Gap), and there are a couple trails in Vogel State Park just past the AT, ones a dayhike the other is an overnighter. There's also Desoto Falls for a short dayhike just before the AT. Really there's tons of dayhikes in the area. If you're going to Northeast Ga that is.

Thanks for the ideas. The plan is NE GA but NW GA isn't out of the question but haven't been over there much. Normally drive straight through to Chattanooga when I visit family. Anywhere in the mountains of TN and NC would be fine too.

I need to call because the website shows that the lower and upper cooper creek campground is closed due to a washout in the spring.

Most of the campsites are first come first serve except for the state parks and they usually stay booked during the summer. Not far from coopers creek on Nat. Forrest land is Rock creek and Deep Hole recreation area. Lake Winfield Scott is also not too far from the same area

You may want to check out Tallulah River Campground or Tate Branch Campground. Good trout fishing and hiking trails around area. Not to from Clayton Ga.

Thanks. Might just skip class that Friday so we can get up there around lunch time and have a better option at sites.

Suggestions would probably depend entirely on the type of fish that you were wanting to catch. Trout like cooler water than other fish. Rainbow trout prefer cooler than brown trout, and natives prefer cooler water than where rainbows lurk.
If trout is what you are after, the Tellico/Bald River areas is probably what you want in areas just above Chattanooga. Base camping from a car and having access to multiple altitudes will afford an angler some of each and smallmouth further downstream.
