Hanging prohibited in Indiana State park

I was planning on using my hammock at an Indiana State Park (Chain of Lakes). The park map has the following statement:

NOTICE: attaching ropes, wires, or chains to trees, by any method is prohibited.

I assume this prohibits my hammock. I also assume that the odds are very low that they would actually confront me on the violation.

Here's my plan: bring my hammock and plan on using it. Bring a tent in case they make an issue.

Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

I don't see webbing listed! Are you car camping or actually hiking? If you're hiking, I'd just bring the tent if you're at all worried - I don't like carrying the extra weight of a second shelter.

I've been approached a few times with this issue in Florida. Out of maybe 15 'visits' only twice have I been told (in no uncertain terms) to remove my hammock. The other 13 wanted to know if they could try it.

That makes me want to carry my 2" wide tree huggers. It would be hard to make a case for them damaging trees. I only hike to places where no one can find me easily, so I don't worry about it, but I am shocked to hear Indiana prohibiting hanging in State Parks. Makes me want to move to KY. Mule

Maybe pitching an old tent as a "red herring?" I think probaby the 'spirit' of that regulation is to avoid badminton, loud group sports, lanterns on those outrigger things, swinging tiki lamps, rope swings, trip hazards, etc.

That wwas my basic plan. Show up late, leave early, hang using slap straps. Ask for forgiveness if needed. Do not ask for permission...

Quite a few parks have prohibitions on hanging anything from trees, including hammocks. One of the reasons I like my Claytor Expedition is that it sets up like a tent easily. I have enough problems just carrying the hammock, much less a hammock and a tent. On the other hand, my experience has been pretty much what Cannibal said, they don't usually mind hammocks as much as all the other stuff people tend to attach to trees.
