Tarp size for longer (11 ft) hammocks

I am a hammock newbie looking to get his first set of gear. As a large guy (6'5", 245 lb), I am looking at longer hammocks (like the DangerBird 72), and I'll need a tarp to go with it.

I've noticed several hex tarps come in two ridgeline sizes (Wilderness Logics Big Daddy & Hammock Gear 4S 4D CC Tarp are two examples).

All you folks out there with longer hammocks: have you found yourself using (or wishing you had) a longer tarp?

I just got a kelty 12' tarp and it is nicely done with ample tie loops giving you lots of options. It is not lightweight but it's my first tarp so I'll find out what I like or don't, and gear up from there.

It is diagonally longer than most usable tree spans so be mindful of that. I'll goof around with this for the summer at least.

I just can't see spending big until I know what I really want.

Definitely the tarp size has to be appropriate for the hammock ridgeline size. It's debatable what the magic numbers are but somewhere in the neighborhood of a 1' overhang on both ends of the hammock. If the tarp has doors, you may get away with a bit less than a tarp without doors.

and remember that the hammock, hung, won't be 11ft long. It's 11ft along the curve, not along the straight across.

I own a DB72 and the WL Tadpole actually covers it really nicely.

I have a Tadpole and Big Daddy .. both cover an 11' Snipe just fine .. and both have seen some pretty tuff weather .. I can attest to the quality of Wildness Logics and Marty's customer service and speed in filling orders is only rivaled by Dutch ..

my hammocks are 11' (WLNO & WLLO) and their SRL is 108".
my tarps are 132" (WLTP & WLOMW) and there is plenty of coverage.
Wilderness Logics offers 144" RL on their tarps for those who want some
extra "play" room.

All your tarp manufacturers will make you what you want also,,I have 2 cuben 4 season tarps made by HG with 12' RL just because I want alittle more coverage for my 11' hammocks. Its my preference and they were happy to take the order.
