    newbie from southeast ga

Hi all! New guy here that needs ALOT of help. I'm wanting to hammock camp but don't know where to begin. Plus, I'm a big guy (325lb 6ft). I live in Rincon, GA, but I am originally from Fort Payne, AL. I've done a lot of backpacking and camping in the past, but I really want to try hanging around. Any help will be welcomed. Thanks!

Hello and Welcome from Canada! Lots of choices for all shapes and sizes. Best to narrow down a budget, hiking style and times, and what you want from the hammock (integrated bugnet, super light etc).

Welcome from another GA hanger. Like Dragon360 mentioned, narrow down what type of camping you will be doing; back yard, car camping, hiking, etc and then you can start to assemble your kit. Take your time and read through the threads. There are tons of people here who are willing to help you out by answering just about any question that you can think of.

    Welcome from Gainesville!

I highly recommend going to a group hang; most everyone will be willing to show off their gear to you. Even if you do wind up having to sleep in a t***, it's worth being able to get a look at some of the different models out there.

Unfortunately, the summer heat isn't very conducive to group hangs; keep an eye on the Trip Planning forum once Fall starts to set in. And, if you're willing to make a bit of a drive, we're already working on the 3rd Annual Florida Hang (we had 80+ folks at the last one) for MLK weekend in January at Buck Lake in Ocala National Forest.

Hope it helps, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. There are tons of info on this site and plenty of folks here willing to help you out. Good luck in your quest. Once you find the right gear and start hangin', you will wonder what took you so long to find hammock camping.
