    Sewing Tip

Know how those big'ol thread cones are a pita to use as your mail spool. Well I figured out that a Bic Pen sheath fits just tight enough over my bobin spool winding axle (Not sure the right terminology there) but I am then able to slide the whole cone over it and use the whole cone, instead of re spooling it to a smaller one.. I don't need to make a makeshift cone holder out of wire and it seemed to work fine for my last Frankenstein UQ.

Having trouble understanding this one. I'd like to see a pic. I have taken an empty bulk CD spindle and set my cone over that. Actually I had trouble with the thread getting caught underneath so I inverted the cone and have had less trouble.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I know about that one.... just to lazy to make it full bore and too cheap to buy one. It's the setup RTR I am having trouble picturing.

I think he is talking about extending the bobbin spooling shaft (?) and setting the spool over the extension.

I use corresponding colored threads for whatever material I am sewing so I buy the 3 inch large spools (not cones). I buy most of my material from OWF and they are pretty good about having the thread colors I need and my spool rod is long enough for them.

Exactly. All I am doing is moving the Cone from the normal place you attach your spool to the bobbin spooling shaft. And all I do to the bobbin shaft is add the Bic pen sheath so it has more axle than before.

Can't wait to try this - I've made a cone holder from wood and coat hanger but it's still a PITA sometimes.
    Thanks for the tip.

So how do you wind your bobbin if you've got that there instead? Where do you put your thread then?
