Haha - I was pondering which of my Brats to bring. Last year Joker dove headfirst into the picnic table!
I'd love to come if I'm free.

I'm up for it as well, assuming the scheduling works out.

I'm sure that there will be a 3rd Winter Hang this year, and I'm on it like white on rice. Now that I have some good topside and under insulation, I'm ready to test the cold and see how it goes. I'm hiking next weekend up in that area near Mt. Rogers, taking the AT from Massie Gap to the VA Creeper and then into Damascus. Yeah, yeah, I'll get pictures.
Oh yeah, before we get too far from the subject of winter hanging, what is the best material to make a hammock sock from? I'm guessing untreated 1.1 ripstop, but not positive on that one? Are they pretty easy to make? How do I know what dimensions to sew it?

Anything very breathable like 1.1 oz DWR will work. I have some dimensions on my page: http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGear.html
Last year's winter hang was the only time I've had a condensation problem in a sock, and it was pretty bad. Joker and I were in the same hammock inside the sock, and a freezing fog came rolling through...made for beautiful trees in the morning, though.

I have used 1.9oz DWR with no condensation issues. I make mine a little differently, more like a pod with a zipper. It's easy to open the zipper for a little more ventilation.

Already a thread started here I sure hope to make it...especially since it is so close to home.
Gentle raindrops and mighty oceans...neither can exist without the other.
Time heals all wounds...but it usually leaves a pretty big scar.
I'm going if I can swing it and am free.
Second the untreated at least on the top. I only had condensation when the temps got really low. Low teens to single digits.

looking forward to the winter hang....always a great gang, thus a great hang...
