Has anyone encountered a Tribe Tree Boat hammock?

Was looking at Craig's list in my area and saw an add for a Treeboat hammock. Googled this and could not believe the prices they are charging for these. One could almost get 3 Clarks for what a complete outfit of one of these cost.

You can catch their web site on hammocks at http://www.newtribe.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=35 and here's the site for complete prices: http://www.newtribe.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=36

Check out the LAP O' LUXURY ALL-SEASON LONGBOAT KIT for $823.

    I'm still in shock.

I couldn't find a weight rating, then I read this
This is our heavy-duty 1000 denier nylon canvas Treeboat Hammock, made a FULL 12” LONGER for our long-limbed friends. It’s 7’6” long and 30” wide.
. This is on the Longboat w/ sleeve. 5 lbs. 13 oz. It sounds like they would hold a car, a very short car

I think that there is a spreader bar. The hammock looks wider then the trees.

How much was the hammock listed for on Craig's List? If you could get it cheap enough, it may be fun to play around with.

Here's the URL, $195 is a bit steep just to try it out. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/spo/830416061.html

I'd say that there won't be much of a demand for a $200 hammock. You may contact them and give them a really low ball offer. You never know.

The reason the treeboat line of hammocks are so heavy and overkill in just about every feature is that they were designed and marketed originally for extremely high risk suspensions for tree climbers and rock climbers.
In BC Canada they are very popular with the big tree climbing crowd.

There is a park in my hometown with several suspension lines set up in a grove of very tall white pines. People can make a day of climbing on the lines and through the various tight-rope courses. The park now has 4 or 5 campsites set up using treeboat hammocks in the canopies of some of these trees.

When you look at basic rigging and safe working loads involving people, you're talking fabric, and line failure ratings 10x greater than required. That said im fairly impressed by a 5lb hammock.
By that same logic the price is only 3x more inflated than it needs to be :P
A hammock setup that runs near 1000 bucks is pretty darn crazy.

Try and find a 5lb tent you can suspend 100+ft off the ground and sleep safe and secure :P

Climbing by day, and sleeping in the canopy by night has become a trendy 'fad' for weekend warriors and serious climbers alike.

Huh, I've never heard of overnight tree climbing. I slept in a mesquite tree once when I was a kid, but besides that, other than a tree house, it never occurred to me. I'm always surprised at the unexpected things I learn on the web. That would be a big step if you had to get up in the middle of the night for a wee. Or, you might be happy you had a tarp if the fellow above you lets fly.

BTW, the book is available on Amazon for $15 used. Plus, there's an organization dedicated to climbing big trees: http://www.treeclimbing.com/
