    Awesome Hangs (Pic Thread)

Mt. St. Helens Volcanic Park, Sheep Canyon trail

This one was epic but kind of dumb. We wanted to be high on the flanks of the volcano for stargazing, so this camp was just at tree line, where the trees were wimpy and extra-challenging. Worse, the nearest source of water was several miles and 2,000 feet below us. We spent two nights here, with hike way down to the river on the day in between to haul up more water. Totally worth it, though.

    Awesome Hangs (Pic Thread)

This was a couple weeks ago up American Fork Canyon in Utah. It was near the bottom, so only around 6,000 ft. It was a Boy Scout campout and we stayed low because it is still cold and snowy further up. I set the hammock up in a place that looked like a den for Bigfoot, but the rocks surrounding me were great for keeping the wind out.

    5995 ft

It was around 35 deg in the middle of the night. We have a father/son campout this Friday that will be much further up in altitude so I'm expecting it to get pretty chilly. Should be a fun time. I've converted a few neighbors, so we should have at least 7-8 hammocks up there (and probably 30+ tents).

That looks pretty cool. I may have to take the kids down there. When does it become unbearably hot?

It won't be bad on the north rim in the summer. The altitude keeps it very reasonable. It's doable all summer up there.

I'm not sure I'd classify this one as an "awesome hang", but it was my first hang with the Superfly strung up (just got the SF this past Friday), so that's gotta count for something.

My buddy and I posted up at some little spot by the name of Chipmunk Flat off of highway 108 in the Sierras to hang out for the day. Brought along a little BBQ, and cooked up some marinated chicken while we were there. One of us, still not sure who, managed to get chicken grease on my SF, and when I unpacked it at home later in the day, it had a strong BBQ chicken smell to it. Cleaned it best I could and let it air out for the past 24 hours, so hopefully it doesn't smell like chicken anymore. Last thing I need is to be sleeping under this thing later on, have a bear catch that chicken smell, and come in looking for a snack.

20% chance of rain and it starts pouring after I get set up! I love my Hennessy!
