Can't tie a knot.... How do I hang my Clark?

yup. bowline is a good knot to learn i can do it with my eyes close and with one hand. it is also good for alot of purpose other than hanging a hammock

That's definitely a concern. I was experimenting with the ridgeline tarp this weekend and was out of everything but some Wally World "para cord". It's not at all like the 550 and the 9s did a pretty good number on them. It also slipped if I wasn't careful and I had to double wrap through the teeth. However, I haven't seen any problems with the tie-out lines. However, I think the additional stress the main supports would be under could prove to create more "chewing" ability so those lines might take a hit.

Have you used the fig. 9 biners? I was thinking about attaching four to my Claytor tarp and I would never have to move the location of the fig 9 on my line. Go to tree or stake with another simple clip biner and away we go, no knots anywhere. I am really intrigued with them.

Holy Tuledo Batman. This is great. Thanks for all your replies. It has given me lots of options and all are really good. It makes me pleased to see all these replies and can I say that I was getting a bit down about it last night because I was so looking forward to sleeping in this baby and then I realised my only problem is that I either need to learn a knot or try another system and that's not all that bad is it for a new bit of gear.

So today is a new day. It is 8am and apart from a few things I have to do I'm going to take an hour and try some knots again.

When I was younger I did a lot of hiking and after an accident I ended up in to 4wd's and Land Rovers. But your forum has renewed my interest and this Hammock just seems grande so back in to it!

I use the biners on the tarp ridgeline and the regular ones on the tie-outs.

time to up the ante and learn to tie it in your sleep, with your eyes closed, and with one hand.

After that you can learn it the way the Navy Seals do, all of the above plus under water.

Actually, I always end up having to tie the second bowline one handed, as I'm using my other hand to pull tension on the hammock. That is probably why switching to an adjustable suspension is so popular.

I was looking at the specs, and they are only rated to 150 lbs. Now, as you engineers have stated in other threads, the ratings are usually under-exaggerated for safety, and by spreading out the load to two stress points, you really aren't putting all your weight on either. I'm thinking I might try the biners just for fun, but I'd have a crash pad ready JIC.

I recently ordered a Clark Nth American Hammock and can honestly say I know nothing about hammock camping. Before I ordered I had looked at your great forum and decided to go this way on things people had said and because I was a bit sick of tents as the areas I go tend to be rocky and nothing you put underneath you can stop you from feeling like the princess and the pea.

So I have an issue. I am hopeless with knots. I spent a couple of hours looking up knots and trying to do them. I went outside and played with the hammock trying to work it out.... I just can't do knots. I was considering going away for a few days at the start of next week so I am trying t work this out...

If I have to learn knots then I will but I'm sure someone out there must know what I'm going through? It also did not have any instructions in the box so I am going off a youtube video I saw. For the cost to get one to Australia I'm sort of pretty peeved that it didn't come with some substantial instructions.

What ideas have you guys had?

Dare I say.... Should I give up and go back to a tent?

Let us know how that goes. I don't mind using them for my tarp but I don't think I'm ready to trust them for keeping me off the ground.

I would not use them on my hammock, only on the tarp. I like my cinch buckles.
