    widowmaker close call

so in my yard theres only 2 trees i can use, and even then theyre pretty far apart.

a few nights ago, i went out to hang the hammock for a bit and weve been having sporadic storms because of all this heat, but i hung up anyway. about an hour into comfort-land, i felt rain and packed the hammock up before i got drenched.

well i woke up the next morning and went out to collect my straps, and there was a 30ft, 6-8" thick limb laying right where i was hanging!!!

ive looked in that tree over an over again and never saw this branch. it was hidden well enough i would have just layed there had there not been rain and who knows what would have happened...

been thinking about it a while, and i have to say i was lucky. yall be carefull

Glad you didn't have any casualties at your place (including the mock) makes you think twice about where to hang huh?

Good to hear you weren't hurt. Even with careful consideration - many times where I am, I feel its still a crap shoot!

Glad to hear that you survived Rev. That size limb would have surely been disasterous. Had one of a similar size come down in the backyard two weeks ago, left some deep divots. Either good karma or someone watching over you. Thanks for the reminder to all of us to be aware of our hang sites.

Glad you are OK! That was a close call. I'm convinced that with the best inspections we can perform, we won't escape when our time is up. Obviously, your time isn't up yet! We all have to go sometime; I guess it's better to be doing something we like when the time does come.

Wow glad you didn't get hurt, and you are ok. Be safe out in the woods, or the back yard.

Really does make you think twice about where you are hanging and a good reminder to look up every time you set up.

Maybe there should be a sticky somewhere with example pictures of what a widowmaker looks like to help with identification for new hangers.
