    hammock sag in the middle

What does it mean if your hammock is sagging too much in the middle? The ridgeline was pretty tight but it still seemed like the middle was sagging - I woke up and I was curled up in the bottom of a U so to speak - it wasn't terrible but the night before wasn't like that...so I am not sure what I did differently.

Could it be the space between the trees? Or the height of the straps? I am trying to consider the variables

It sounds like your hammock is stretching. A structural ridgeline is intended to provide a consistent sag. Without the ridgeline length changing, the sag cannot get any more or less, provided that the ridgeline is fairly taut (a loose ridgeline would provide more sag).

maybe it needed to be a bit tighter - which would have been easier if the trees were a little further apart - which also would have helped with my tarp issue i posted about elsewhere - maybe 15ft ish is better than 12.

What's your ridgeline set at? Most folks like their ridgeline at about 83% (give or take a couple percent) of their hammock's full length.

Why, I don't know...and I don't know if anyone else does, either. But, if your hammock is sagging too much, it might be that your ridgeline (if it's adjustable) was set too short. On the other hand, it could be that the fabric was stretching, as mentioned above. That depends on how much weight was in the hammock vs. what the hammock was made of.

it is a HH Expedition - I do not think the ridgeline is adjustable that I know of...unless I am missing something - the tension seems to be adjusted by how tight you stretch the hammock with the suspension rope at each end

When you set it up, does the suspension look like it is at a 30 degree angle to the ridgeline on the ends?

It sounds like an angle issue on the hang. A too-tight ridgeline can snap - mind the "hangle." The foot end needs to be a bit higher than the head end, otherwise you'll ball up in the bottom.

i think the angle was too great - meaning the suspension and webbing was too "steep" and should have been more horizontal - does that make sense?

Yep, that's your trees being too close together. Your ridgeline in that photo is not taut. It may have seemed so, but that's due to the underquilt rather than your hang angle. The underquilt pulls down on the ridgeline, seeming to make it taut no matter the hang angle; I've run into this with my PLUQ.

That's actually how I prefer my Hennessy to hang, but not everyone does. HYOH and find your level of comfort.

how far apart would you say the maximum distance for the HH would be? If I recall the recommended is 12 to 20 feet. Is that right? Which would mean 12 ft is bare minimum and if my shoes are a little smaller than I thought maybe I was only at 11 ft or so.
