    HH conversion for colder weather

I took my old HH Cocoon and cut off the bug netting and the ridge line. I then cut a hole in the foot & one in the head of my sleeping bag to use as a peapod. I wish more sleeping bag manufacturers would put the zipper down the middle of the bag. That would make it even easier to escape.

Haven't had time to try it out overnight. I'm gonna try it at the MAHHA Fall hangout. I'll bring my HH asym too just in case I don't like it.

    New uses for old equipment.

I understand why you cut off the HH bug netting, but why did you cut off the ridge line?

    Ridge line

I cut the ridge line at both ends to slide the sleeping bag on.
I then reattach it for the tarp if I need it.

It was way too hot & muggy to try it at the MAHHA campout this weekend.

Gotcha. I wasn't thinking about that. Understand now.

    Tried it out

I tried it the other day in 42degrees in a North Face sleep bag rated for 40 degrees. I stayed warm all night.
I've got to sew up around the holes to keep them from expanding.
What a difference it made, I should have done this a long time ago.
I know its similar to a Peapod but I'm not going to spend that kind of money if I'm not sure it will work for me and not make me feel claustrophobic.
Now if more sleep bag manufacturers will put the zipper down the middle.

I didn't use the ridge line because my hammock stand has too much 'give' and I was afraid it would snap. I put up the tarp using the connectors and then moved them tighter when I got into the bag/hammock.

Does anyone make a sleeping bag with the zipper down the middle? If so, I've never seen one.

A handful of sleeping bags are made with zippers down the middle. Offhand I can think of GoLite and Nunatak's Alpinist.
“Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall when the wise are banished from the public councils because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.” ~Judge Joseph Story

The Rock Wren has a drawstring closure at the bottom of the bag as well as the 1/2 zip.
So you'd only need to cut a hole in the hood for your hammock line.
Thanx koaloha0, I didn't know about that bag.

    Rope problem

I've been testing my set up on a hammock stand that cut thru the ropes a bout 1' from the HH hammock. I'm going to cut the rope and retie it.

To all you ropes & knots experts out there: whats the best knot to use to?

    Thanx
