Better whipping/suspension methods for the GT UL?

I bought a GT UL a couple weeks ago and took it for a test drive, and I was really disappointed with the lay. It had a severe ridge in the center, and was doing a pretty good burrito impression.

I don't have a lot of experience with a gathered end, but I bashed together a gathered end this spring in about 15 minutes out of just a single layer of polyester and some rope, and got a far better lay.

I'm assuming, considering they are pretty simple creatures, and they have such a big following, that I dorked something up when I hung it. I've heard rumblings of folks whipping the ends in a different manner. Anybody able to offer some insight here?

If I can't get it to lay better, it's about to be the body of my new bridge.

Frost - not sure if you tried various adjustments to sag --- many find with GT hanging it with less sag than most hammocks works better.

    good luck!

Hmmm that is very interesting. I don't think a gathered end is a solution for me, but for my friend, who's new to hammocking, it might be. I'll have to give this a try with his GTUL, since I just cut mine up for a new ultralight bridge this morning.

The GT UL is already a pretty short and narrow hammock. Is there enough fabric to make a bridge?

Should be plenty of body at 9.5 x 4.5 for a bridge.

    My jrb is ~7 x ~3.5......?

Cant wait to see pics of your conversion.
