    another use for Dutch W-Hooks

...a new ( unauthorized ) use for Dutch W-Hooks .......firesteel

    strikers....i carry a firesteel every day..all the time..and i wanted a

dedicated striker that's as small as possible...and still useable...

the two small knives i carry don't have a sharp enough spine to strike...

and they're SS which is not as good as carbon....

..the black rock hunter is a good striker, but i

don't carry it that much ...i kno i can use the blade in an

emergency, but it's not too healthy for it...

i put a sharp 90 edge on the hooks...i'm not sure which one i like better..

i think they both strike just as well as the commercial strikers...and the

Ti-mini biner is just right for 1 1/8 in. belts....the surefire EDC hangs

    from another Ti-biner...

Good idea. I assume you are not going to use the modified biner on your suspension.

True. I was reminded of that very fact last night.

Though I mostly use a lighter, you can open a beer with just about any rigid item with which you can get leverage - tent stake, butt of a knife, a stick.

There are even videos on how to open a beer with a piece of paper, a dollar bill, and of course, opening the bottle with another beer.

Once you have mastered opening a beer with another beer, you can move onto opening a bottle of wine without a corkscrew.

And when you have mastered that, you can then practice opening a bottle of wine without a corkscrew in front of an audience while you are inebriated.

Those French people are quite ingenious.

I swear I thought the guy was going to whack the bottle against the wall and shatter it.

Does bring to mind a neat business plan, wine openers by the pair.

That's a ferrocerium rod (ferro rod) not fire steel. Very commonly mistaken named for some reason. Fire steel is a steel striker used to spark flint, chert, obsidian and other rocks with a hardness of 7.
