Sounds like I get the extra ounce too. I guess I'll just leave one bite of a Snicker's bar at home, to compensate.

the change in weight is to the superfly tarp, not the hammock.

billybob, main advantages over other end gathered hammocks would be that you are able to lie on the regular diagonal with less restriction (head and feet don't cram into the sides of the hammock) and as such there is more head and foot room.

there's side entry, and you can throw the net over the ridgeline when not needed. and the double bottom. the roominess is my favorite feature. i can throw my arm behind my head and my elbow still doesn't come in contact with the netting. lots more room in the head/shoulder area compared to a hh when laying diagonal.

OK, I see it was the superfly. It is this darn internet access in the motel I am in that got me. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

    Thanks for the info, WBG.

The head and feet cramming into the sides of the hammock is the main reason I switched to the bridge hammock. I'd like to take the Blackbird for a ride.

Would the JRB 8x8 tarp provide adequate coverage for the Blackbird?

well, depends on what you consider adequate, but the blackbird is the same size as several hh models. so yes, it will definately cover the the hammock if turned as a diamond fly. it's probably a decent medium sized tarp to use, not as much coverage as a big hex, but alot more than something like the stock hh fly.

FF, are you going to make it to Mt. Rogers? If so, and I actually make the hang (still bartering with the wife,) you are more than welcome to try out my Blackbird. I will have my Clark, my BMB and my Blackbird for the hang, just for people to try out the feel of the different hammocks.

Man that sounds cool. Not sure right now if I can attend. I'm a bridge guy at heart, but I sure would like to lay in one of those puppies before I shelled out the bucks.
