I just cut the line. I'm not exactly sure what kind of line is stock with the ENO's, but if you ask me it appears to be some kind of nautical cordage. When I put the new line with the ring buckles into it, I ran it through in the same fashion and secured it with a double fisherman's knot (http://www.animatedknots.com/doublef...atedknots.com). I'm going to hang it for the first time some time late today after I get to Charlotte. I'll try and post pics from there if I can, depending on my mom's computer and its willingness to cooperate.
On a separate note, many thanks to Headchange4U for sewing the loops on my straps. I really appreciate it HC, thanks a lot. And for anyone who's not met HC, he's an all around cool guy. I can't wait to start my sewing lessons sometime after vacation!

Hello All,
I am new to the forum and have enjoyed perusing all the info contained here. I had a question regarding the weight comparisons of the different ways to lash your hammock to a tree. I wittled my HH down to 25 ounces with tarp and snake skins. I like the idea of the other lashing methods, that cleat thingy (the little light one), the ring buckle style, but I had a hard time telling if these options are lighter than just using the tree straps as provided by the manufacturer. Also is there any threads on here about the lightest hammocks?
thanks adam
Just Jeff's site has a page about hammock weights with links.
Whether the different suspension options are lighter than the stock HH spectra depends on the model that you have. Some models have heavier spectra than others. For me, aside from possible weight savings considerations, I find that the versatility and convenience of their use makes the 'alternative' methods worth using.
The cleats do look like a good option, but I'm going to stick with my ring/buckle setup. It is quick, light, and sturdy. Also, I wasn't a fan of the amount of stretch that I got from the stock spectra of my HH. To each their own, though.
Welcome to the forum, El Monstro.

angrysparrow - I find it interesting that the spectra you are using stretches. Normally spectra is a very low stretch fiber. I think I have read somewhere that it is less than 1%, but I could be mistaken on that. All the spectra I have used stretches so little that I haven't noticed any stretch at all, even the stock spectra on the HH. Interesting.
I was wondering about that myself...how many nights have you had in your HH? Mine stretched quite a bit for the first while, but then I stretched it on purpose and it stopped. In my experience Spectra in general has VERY little stretch, like TeeDee said.

The fabric on an HH stretches for the first few nights, but I doubt the Spectra is stretching.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
I've long since passed the fabric stretching period, having now spent about 40ish nights in it. The stretching was much greater through the first 6 or 7 nights (mostly the fabric I guess), but after that I would still have to retighten the spectra (to eliminate sag) after being in it for half an hour or so. At first I thought that it might have been the knots tightening up, but it was sagging more than that would allow for, so I think it had to be the Spectra. After 15 nights or so, I moved to the ring/buckle setup and haven't had any problem with it since.
Some of the hangs that were particularly 'stretchy' were long (around 20ft between trees), so that may have had something to do with it.
And no, I don't weigh 300lbs or anything. I weigh around 185, and it is a HH Deluxe Asym.
