I now officially have the ring buckle setup on my HH Scout. Haven't hung it yet, maybe tomorrow. Dang, there is a lot of cord/webbing on that thing now. I am not going to cut the original cord, since I may (probably will) end up with a different hammock and will take the Scout back to the original tree huggers for when I use it as a spare to loan out.

I got the idea from TeeDee on page 6 of this thread.

You could go ahead and cut the spectra on your scout and just leave the rings on it, and when you get another hammock try another method like the CC buckles. Another hammock is a good excuse to try something new, no?

Here's a pic of the helical knot, or ascender knot. Some other cool knots also:

I think I will have to try the ascender knot. The anchor hitch that I am using now makes the rings harder to use.

Shadowmoss, one of our other members, Miu had the same thing with her HH. There was just a whole bunch of spectra leftover after the ring buckles were attached, so if I look at the pic right, she just bunched it up and rubber banded it. It's just an idea that someone else has tried, I can't attest to how well it works because I don't have an HH.

I did that for a while before I cut mine. Lets you revert to the stock system if you don't like what you're trying. Adds a bit of unnecessary weight, but doesn't really take up much room.

I saw Miu's pictures, which is what gave me more courage to just go ahead and set mine up. I coiled the extra spectra like a climbing rope, but will probably use something that keeps it in a bit of a tighter bundle once I put my hands on something that will work. I don't see me cutting the spectra on this hammock since it has always been considered my 'training hammock', to get an idea of what it is that I really want.

The VPI caving site is neat. I found it funny that they said in the directions for the acending knot that the bowline must be backed up with something else. Back in the day I was lucky to get the bowline tied right, much less think about backing it up. Times change.

Angrysparrow posted this info. on another thread. Thought many would find it useful:
Don't forget that Strapworks does sewing on their products, too. If you need any loops or modifications to the webbing, they are happy to do so. Matter of fact, the last I ordered from them, I got some loops sewn in mine and it still shipped the same day. That's simply fantastic service, IMO.
