just curious, how heavy is one cc buckle or two aluminum rings? looked through the first 7 pages and couldn't find any weights.

i guess i tested the large fig 9. i think i'll swing by home depot tomorrow and try the small one just to see if it breaks. it is only rated to 50#, so it will be interesting to see if it breaks or not.

being a gearhead, I have them all (except the hitchcraft do-dad). Measured to 0.1 ounce on a postal scale.

    1 cc buckle : 1 oz.
    2 SMC descender rings : 0.8 oz.
    1 Large (150# rated) figure-9 thing-a-ma-bob : 1.1 oz.
    1 Small (50# rated) figure-9 thing-a-ma-bob : 0.1 oz.
    1 zig-zag plastic cleat : 1.3 oz.

I'm not climbing into a hammock suspended by the little figure 9's. The big ones look and feel very substantial though.

So it looks to me like the deciding factor weight-wise comes in
whether you use 1" webbing or something really lightweight such as
    2.8 mm Spyderline.

Last night I wandered over to Sgt. Rock's site and saw a pretty complete analysis by TeeDee, including the weight of webbing vs. cord. He takes the cc buckle to be 1.6 oz, so either he has a different one, or is using someone elses data, or is mis-informed on that weight.

Thanks to everyone for pointing out the obvious.
I honestly can't believe I missed all those biner postings here or at JJ's site! Now, I'm going to go read this thread and the bridge hammock thread again form the start to see what else I missed. I'll see you folks in a few weeks.

I bet if they made it out of a different alloy, say titanium, these things would be very useful.
this would cut down on the weight quite a bit using the new biner/9
I see thin spyderline coming off the hammock, attached to the teeth of the nine, with the biner clipping through loops of a tree hugger.

Tried to sleep in the hammock last night.

I'd forgotten that it takes a night or two to re-acclimate to it. (night noises, different position, etc.)

The humidity was about 100%, following a big rainstorm, and I couldn't quite get to sleep. Gave it up at midnight and came inside.

    Interesting point.
Temps were in the 70's. I had only my double thickness hammock under and a sheet over me. After an hour or so, I could feel the chill sneaking into my feet. "Under insulation: Don't leave home without it!"

    Very interesting.

    The ring buckles performed flawlessly.

So Cannibal, does that mean you are going to make it to Hot Springs? We missed you at Blackie's event.

Me too; I still owe you that zipper!

I really want to get another look at some of the speer stuff. I was awfully green at Trail Days; it might help to see it again now that I kinda know what I'm looking at/for.
