another favorable report for this system. I have rings and carabiners.

I motorcycled all day, via back roads from Florida to North Georgia. 577 miles,, to be precise.

I was tired. Got dinner and then hung in the dark. Things went up without a hitch (PUN???) took maybe 10 minutes. It was starry out, so I didn't bother with a tarp, just threw a poncho liner over the ridgeline.

Slept all night like a rock.

Just thought you'd like to know.

finally got this set up tonight in the house.
larks head from the treehuggers around the rings... then my stock HH suspension to the rings. biner to clip the huggers together. works like a charm.

was supposed to get my first overnight hang this weekend but i ended up in the ER with a huge asthma attack due to a lingering cold.

going to get out wednesday night if the weather holds for some cold hanging.
there was snow falling around mansfield and camel's hump today! not sure if i have the right gear for cold cold cold... but we'll give it a try.

This may have been suggested or tried before but it has been a week since I sat down and read all 69 pages about this technique. I believe I should receive an honorary Hammock Hangers Doctoral Degree for that one. Dr. Little Weasel has a nice ring to it.
I have the rings, biners and cinch buckles. I am waiting on the straps to arrive so I can test and find which I like better so. Therefore, I can not currently test this idea.
As I sit here looking over and messing around with with the rings, cinch buckles and some rope, it appears to me the reason most have to tie a backup slip knot is because the roundness of rings gives the straps nothing to grab onto.
What if you were to take 4 cinch buckles, cut the v shaped cinch out and use 2 of the buckle frames on each strap just like the decenders ringers? The squared off corners and ends would give alot better holding power and slippage would probably be eliminated. There would be a slight weight penalty but his may solve the slippage issues with rings and the problem some have getting the buckles to release if pulled to tightly on a ridge line hammock.

That sounds like it would work but I would still use a back up knot. I don't know how real the problem is with the CC buckles. I have never had them lock up and I think there was only on incident that I know of. Maybe it got wedge some how.

I am going to move this over to a new thread after doing some quick testing. It seems to be working very well and this thread has not had any added posting attention in some time.

New to hanging. Just picked up a SBPro and 4 2" rings from Home Depot.

Tried this method but got slippage... I noticed in the original thread he used 1.5" rings - could that be the issue? I'm using 2 tie down straps.

    Thanks!

I don't know about the rings you are using but the cure for the slipage is a half hitch. I will find a picture.

the rings MUST be pinched hard opposite the webbing. Most use a prussic knot or related knot to hold the rings. Then a half-hitch in the webbing right at the rings stops any additional slippage that might occur.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."
