I am sold on these rings and have converted all my hammocks to them.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

a long time ago, I posted about not needing expensive" descending rings" and then a year or two later, confessed that my hardware store welded steel rings peeled like a ripe grape.
Well, I changed my ways and bought real descending rings and used them for the first time Xmas eve. They are great. Many times lighter, since they are aluminum alloy. the bigger cross section make locking a lot easier.

This system is by far the easier method to use after a long hike. quick disconnect when breaking down camp is nice too.
I've never been able to get rings to hold tight. Seems like they slip every time I get out to take a pee.
do you use a keeper knot?
I know I'm months and ever years behind on this topic. But I just got my descending rings and polypro webbing and this is the second thing I have read where someone said to tie a slippery half hitch in the webbing as a just in case sort of thing.
I'm a knot noob. Can someone direct me to somewhere where I can find a simple diagram of how to tie a slippery half hitch? Also, I assume I would tie it on the working end of the webbing, just past the ring buckles?
Thanks for any help! =D
