What is the benefit of using a carabiner rather than simply pulling the webbing strap itself directly through the loop that is already sewn on to it?

You could do that but the free end of the webbing needs to pass through. That means it is not connected to the hammock all the time. For me and my family, the 1100-1200 pound rated carabiners allow the strap to remain connected to the buckles that we use. Faster and simpler deployment IMHO. Out of the bishop bag, clip to the tree walk to the other tree as the bishop bag allows the hammock to slide out, clip around other end. Pull strap tag ends to desired hang level, done.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Speed and you don't have to remove the webbing strap from the buckles each time. However there is nothing wrong with just pulling the strap through the loop.

Arrowhead equipment sells rings in different colors as well. They are at the bottom of the page.

I'm currently running webbing with dutch cinch buckles - http://dutchwaregear.com/cinch-buckle.html

You think it would be worth the change them to this type of buckle - http://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/1buckle-set/

Nothing wrong with what I have not apart from weight. So what would be the difference in weight and convenience? Or should I wait for the ti verdion from Dutch...
