7 Days at Jones Gap State Park, SC

Finally got my trip report up from Jones Gap after I got back from overseas. Nothing eye-popping as far as hammocks go, but it was really a great trip at a time I really needed one. A few good pics in there, and a lot of good experiences.

    http://www.tothewoods.net/HikingPicturesJonesGap.html

Used the Warbonnet with homemade half-underquilt (kids quilts were one of the first projects I made) and JRB 8x8. And a Hennessy BULA with the JRB 3 season set and MacCat Standard.

Videos aren't up yet either so those links won't work.

Excellent trip report and pics , Jeff. Nice to see those again. It looks like you and your boys had an excellent time. Good way to get back in the swing of things here. I'll be looking forward to seeing the vids once you have the links up.

Great report Jeff. Your oldest (w/ no trail name yet) "he" dosent look like the same kid I saw at Hot Springs last year.
I believe the snake was a Garter Snake & I can't be sure from the picture but the salamander looked like a Red Spotted Newt in the "TERRESTRIAL RED EFT STAGE".
Several times I've seen the red crawfish, but haven't found out yet why they were red... maybe a phase in their life or maybe a type of crawfish???
They are pretty that way though.

I once took some boys camping & we caught crawdads & cooked them. Pretty good.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

You sound smarter than me so I'll say it's a Red Spotted Newt in the terrestrial red EFT stage.

We caught several crawdads and cooked them over the fire in a Walmart Grease Pot. Don't need a lot of money to have fun. And I can put down some crawdads in cajun restaurants...but I can't peel them fast enough for Joker! He can peel his own now, just not as fast as Dad yet.

That's the same boy you remember...he's in his "I'm gonna pretend like nothing makes me happy because I'm 13 now" stage. The hair is part of that. Listening to heavy metal and just started guitar lessons. But he did enjoy the trip. I was surprised how quiet he was...spent a lot of time with the slingshot. Every time we stopped to rest on the trail he had that sucker out trying to hit whatever he could.

Wow! You are so blessed to have a great family. I miss those days with my son but I'm sure we will get to do some more camping and hiking even though he is starting college soon. Great pics and wonderful write up.
