Poncho liner UQ

I am just curious as to what dimensions your UQ have come out to (top layer and bottom layers) I have been adding 2 layers of IX and it seems that about a 39.5" inside layer and a 42" outside layer leaves enough room for the IX to be added and not compressed. Have any of you had better/different sizing? 57-59" seems to get you the most length/width.

I was sure with all the people that had made UQ there would be no end to the different sizes and shapes of UQ made from military Poncho Liners???

I just folded mine in half and stitched it all together. No Fanciness on mine and it works like a charm...hopefully more people reply. I saw this yesterday and didn't reply because mine was a quicky...g/l

The ones I have been doing are sew-ups so I cut them. I straighten the side with the ties ands then cut the folded side and stitch together They end up about 39' on the short side and 42 on the outside side, seems to leave enough room for the 2 layers of IX

Mine was a sew-up, Outer layer was 3 inches wider than inner, not sure it makes any effect.

Yeah mines the see variety too but I didn't cut anything...call me lazy

there are a lot of people who did the ix thing, but I took the easy/ cheap road.

Basically, just fold in half and sew up. I've stuffed some with insulation, including IX. I even made one with differential baffles. PLUQs are meant to be simple and cost-effective.

This idea really intrigues me, does anyone have any photos, what kind of insulation are you guys using?

Also looking forward to the responses as I am just about to sew up my first PLUQ. My plan (for now, at least) is to make the outer layer larger by 2 inches. I figure that will give enough looseness so that the outer layer does not compress the inner layer when hung. I plan to leave one end open to add or remove insulation as needed. That is, if the extra 2 inches gives me enough room.

I'm thinking Climashield...the thick stuff to get a couple inches of loft so I'm planning to do 4" smaller on the inside and am thinking of trying truck bed netting to suspend the PLUQ instead of using side suspension only. Maybe this won't work but I'm thinking that if it is wet and blowing I can put a waterproof layer under the PLUQ to keep it dry and still be able to keep the quilt from being crushed too much and maintain the 2" of loft. I'mgoing to put some "pucker" strings on the end and use ends tied to the net.

Any thoughts?
