guy lines

Has anyone ever tried using whooipes made from 1.75 zing-it for your tarp guy lines? if so what did you like and dislike about it? I just got a WB Supperfly and i need to put guy lines on it just thinking about it.

I have used Mason line whoopies as "extra" guy lines, but for my main guy lines, I like "Shane's method" using 1.75 zing-it. Whoopies use alot of zing it, compared to this method.

A few folks have done it, the down side is that it limits how close you can get your tarp to the stake. Another down side is that it requires twice the line.

A prusik or klemheist hitch makes a repositionable hitch that many hangers prefer for tarp guylines.

Best of luck with the Superfly, it's a great tarp, maybe my favorite if only a bit on the weighty side. There are a lot of D-rings on a winter tarp, be mindful that the rigging and stakes can add up quickly.

You don't want to be in a position where the only way to loosen it is to cut it and destroy it.
Prusik, kleimheist or similar sliding and locking knots for rope on rope.

The other issue with a whoopie sling is that it is difficult to adjust/undo once tension has been applied. I agree with Bannerstone that a prussic or friction hitch of choice on a line with a splice fixed eye is the way to go for tarp guy lines.

Also, whoopie slings use up twice as much line. As mentioned, a friction hitch is useful and easy to adjust.

I've got some and they work very well. Typically there is enough play in the ridgeline to make it so you can unhook your guyline from your stake. I doubt I'll ever be in a position where I'll have to cut them.

They come in at 0.8oz for a pair.
