    Big South Fork

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I'm just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I am thinking of visiting Big South Fork next week Sept. 26 & 27. I know next to nothing about the park and would really like to get the best veiws and possible hang near the river or stream. Also I may end up going solo as the guy going with me almost always backs out at the last minute. Considering its a new area for me and I may be alone I would like to stick to only a few trials so that my wife will have a better Idea of where I should be.

If anyone can point me to some trails it would be great. Also I would like to know the nearest ranger station.

If anyone would like to join me please let me know.

You can go to WhiteBlaze.net and ask. Or, after joining if you haven't already, PM Rain Man, Envirodiver, Ewker, or Mowgli. I'm pretty sure that they all have knowledge of the area. Rain Man (use the space, RainMan without one is a different person) and Ewker are hangers, so they may even have some insight on that.

Tons of places to hike in the BSF. It a really pretty area, and most of it is right along water (the Big South Fork: go figure).

Both hikes that I've traveled in the BSF were really nice. One was along a creek, and the other was near Yahoo Falls. Both have plenty of room to hang.

If you're looking for solitude, I would suggest a combo of Gobbler's Arch Trail and Mark Branch Trail. The Branch is, well, a branch. While we were on the trail, we saw absolutely no one. It's a bit out there (and a little bit hard to find), but it's worth the trip.

If you're looking for a plethora of water, you'll want to hike in the Yahoo Falls Area. I did ~10 mile combo between Yahoo Falls Trail, Negro Creek Trail, and the Sheltowee Trace (it forms a loop). All of the ST along this section is right on the river (probably about 4 or so miles).

I have maps and SOGs if you're interested. PM me and I'll send them to you.

BTW: Both of these hikes are in the Kentucky portion of the BSF.

On the Tennessee side it hard to beat the Charit Creek/Laurel Creek/Twin Arch area this time of year. Plenty of water and a variety of hikes to pick from. In October the hike from Leatherwood Ford to the Grand Gap Loop offers some great views of the fall colors.
