    Weather Shield.

Hello! I have question for you guys. I have some sil and want to make a weather shield for my UQ. Is sil a good material to make a weather sheild, or will I get all sweaty? If not what is? I'm sorry if this has been asked before but, I searched and couldn't find any answers. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

2QZQ sells them both ways. I guess it depends on what you really need

I have made a few of the UQ protectors, similar to what 2QZQ sells. I used 1.1 ripstop. They work very well to block wind and add between 5-10F to the ratings in windy conditions, in my experience. I intentionally did not go with sil, as I wanted the protectors to be breathable. They were pretty simple to make, not much different from making a hammock with a Knotty mod (stretch sides). YMMV.

Thanks for the info. That helped a bunch! I'm going to go get me some 1.1 and do it up!!

It's a fair amount more expensive than nylon (~$10/yd), but for a weather shield I would consider Momentum 90 as it's a bit lighter than 1.1 and known for being quite windproof while staying breathable.
