I'm not sure what you'd call it, but it worked

This is my first attempt at... whatever you call this suspension method. Any comments/suggestions are welcome.
A little background info. The trees are too far apart, but it's what I have to work with at the moment. Using a pole to shorten the distance is my next move.
The suspension line is 1/8th Amsteel [1] essentially run from tree to tree.
I had to use webbing straps on the trees for several reasons and they did stretch some over time that required tightening (once or twice), and they're as high as I can get them without using a ladder.
The hammock is an ENO DN. The ends are separated 83% of the length. I was able to get diagonal, on my side [2], and almost on my stomach. Since then I've added some extra loops to increase or decrease the sag.
With all 5' 10", 300+ lbs of me stretched out, well let's just say "daddy can play bass" on the line. Also, having something to grab on to helped a lot when getting up.
All in all, it was a comfortable night despite the heat. Waking up not achy, stiff and creaky is kinda nice.

[1] This is great stuff, smaller than paracord and 2300 lb test.
[2] My feet were a little high, but that's easily fixed.

I think you'd call that a single line suspension. See Headchange4U's thread HERE. Looks real good! Glad to hear you slept well and woke up feeling great! Good job and thanks for sharing!

Nice setup! Are you running a carabiner through your hammock end channels? Interesting idea to save length!

Love my eno DN, happy hangin'!

Bearchasher also has a SLS, http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=32421. Similar to your's but with the tarp attached to the SLS also, eliminating the straps and rigging for the tarp. My difference was in using whoopies between the hammock and biners.

Excellent...nice setup! Without seeing you in it,I cannot see how high your feet are. But most try to keep their foot end higher tto prevent from sliding down towards your feet at night.

How do you have your webbing around the tree? I cannot tell if it's bent back on itself before going down to the amsteel.
    It's a hammock thing, you won't understand!

The wife no longer kicks me out of bed after she saw a hammock hanging in the dog house.

In the picture I am. However, I was so impressed with the Amsteel that I replaced the carabiners with Amsteel loops [1] girth hitched though the end channel of the hammock on one end and an aluminum rappelling ring on the other. I'm not a "gram counter" by any means, it makes things less "clunky". Those carabiners are just too big and shaped wrong [2].

[1] Like a whoopie sling but tied, not the slick, pretty splice
[2] The gate needs to open the other direction - toward the small end

The tree straps are bent back on themselves creating a kind of friction lock. Being nylon, they do slip slowly and stretch

Just remember that knots in Amsteel derate the rope by up to 50 percent.

I plan on using the hammock line as the tarp line under normal circumstances. In this particular situation, not long after that pic was taken, a second hammock was placed under the tarp. The separate rigging made it easier to center everything.
