What mods for a DN

Hello all. I'm going to be picking up an ENO DN for my first hammock. I have an REI in town so it's convenient, and people seem to be very pleased with them at REI's review section. What type of mods should I be looking at. Note that this will be primarily a car camping hammock. I have kids, one is 3 and don't see a way around car camping for the forseable future. Thanks for any suggestions. I have read about their straps that people have been displeased with, but I do see that they have Atlas straps coming out that should hopefully knock out the stretching problem.

The mods I have made on mine:

Changed suspension out for whoopies

Added an adjustable ridge line

Added the Knotty mod (stretch sides) on both the head and foot ends.

First: replaced stock carabiners with aluminum climbing carabiners directly in the end of the hammock.

Second: Replaced the carabiners with amsteel loops and rap rings (not counting grams, the carabiners were just too "klunky")


After further reflection, since you'll be primarily car camping, you probably don't "need" any mods. Everything discussed so far (except tree straps) have been weight saving mods which is not something that will be of much benefit to you for the time being. Decent tree straps is about all there is to consider and those you can DIY easily.

Adjustable webbing suspension here. Like it a lot better!!!

Got rid of factor rope and biners for whoopies and poly tree huggers. Also adjustable ridge line which is a fixed ridge line now. Works great, lighter than factory and all still fits into stock ENO pouch.

If your just car camping for now I would pick up the new atlas straps or go with the kammock python straps. Also just a thought for the same price you could get adjustable webbing suspension from warbonnet. I ordered a set for a friend and installed them on his ENO DN. Very simple and very easy to set up.

I cut off the straps on the bag. I removed the heavy carabiners and rope DN had on and replaced them with the Dutch buckle set and Whoopie slings. Its perfect now.

raiffnuke: How did you go about adding the knotty mod?

It was pretty easy...a couple of button holes, fold the edge over to make a channel, add some grosgrain loops for the shock cord, easy peasy. I will try to get some pictures for you if you want.
