    Nametags

Don't worry shy folks, this will be my first MAHHA too, I am a social butterfly so I don't have the shy issue, but I have volunteered to bring nametags, that way you can walk up to someone like you know them.

I'll be the one not wearing a name tag - the International Man of Mystery.

Yeah, but don't you think the surf board and your silver complexion will give it away?

I can carry a conversation about as far as I can carry the Eiffel Tower and went to my first mahha last fall.
Just find JD aka Mr Speer. I lucked my way into that one. Or jump into an activity or gear tour. My friends usually flip out when I tell them I just went camping with a bunch of people I've never met.

I won't be wearing the silver suit or using my surfboard. In today's tough economy, even the Silver Surfer has to take a second job. I'm also working for Dos Equis - I'm the Most Interesting Man in the World.

I don't always sleep in a hammock, but when I do, I suspend my hammock using sheer willpower, not straps or whoopies.

We'll all appreciate that. Last time I had to ask Kayak Karl who he was, and he's well up there on the list of unforgettable personalities. Also, Dutch is invisible when he shaves his beard ....

I think a lot of people believed that JD was Ed Speer. I saw him autographing a copy of Hammock Camping.

This is not a criticism of the event. I just felt like I was intruding on a family reunion and I wasn't family.
Try one of the pre-hikes. Nothing like some trail time/campfire time to get to know a smaller group before you roll into the Mahha. The Mahha crowd can be intimidating, but once you start chatting you will fit right in.

And if you do a pre-hike with Sound Man, you'll get to know his backside pretty well - he hikes fast!
