My 6 year old son and I managed to get 2 nights to head out this last weekend. Had only done overnighters before. After breakfast out we drove about 2 hours to the Montana/Idaho boarder at about 6300 ft. He managed to carry about 10 lbs for the 2.5 mile hike to Bonanza Lakes. Our first view was this.

We found a great place to hang the hammocks giving us a tremendous view of the lake. Only bad part is the mosquitos ate us alive. We forgot the repellent since we haven't seen any of the terrible creatures at home this year.

My son enjoyed catching a couple of frogs

and of course fishing. He caught so many brook trout I lost count. He actually learned to get them off the hook. At one point he let me have the pole. When he gave it to me he told me to change hooks and which one to use, then proceeded to show me where to cast. I immediately caught a fish, which he insisted he remove from the hook and release. After doing all this I asked him if I now had to pay him $250/day guide fee. He did not understand but said he would take the $250.

We did see a moose but I could not get a great picture with the phone camera. After 2 wonderful nights and most of 3 days we hiked out. This was the view of the trail leaving. We saw 12 different wildflowers blooming.

All in all a great trip. We are both anxious to go again. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
