Hello from SW Florida!

Hey everyone brand new the the forum! I'm an avid hiker but very new to hammock camping (I've always been a tenter). I've hiked a bit of the AT up north when I lived in Maryland but since I've moved to Florida I haven't gotten as much time to explore the trails as I'd like due to work. Anyway while at work today I was introduced to the forum by another member so here I am! I'm hoping to find the information I need to pick out the right hammock for me so I can ditch my much over-rated tent!

I highly recommend coming on out to one of the various group hangs here in FL. There's one next weekend at Ichetucknee Springs in Fort White (see my sig, below, for the planning thread), and the 3rd Annual Florida Hang is coming up in January (yes, we're on the planning stage this far out). Last year, we had a boatload of fun.

Keep an eye on the Trip Planning subforum come the Fall; most folks aren't crazy enough to go out into the heat we get down here until October-ish.

Also, feel free to PM me with any specific questions that you might have!

FLRider and MAD777 thanks for the invites! Unfortunately I will not be able to attend next weeks hang because I do not have a hammock yet; I want to learn as much as I can before I make my purchase. Though I will definitely have one by January and if my school schedule allows I'll be in attendance for the Florida Hang!

You don't need a hammock to attend a hang bring a t€nt. After all, we need something to remind us where we came from

Actually, let us know and probably every one of us could bring a spare hammock for you to use!

And there are no excuses to miss the Annual Florida hang - it's MLK weekend - no school!
