Question 2012 Fall MAHHA (NOBO) PreHike Hash Out

Hey All, so the buzz has started and the wait is killing me. So Ive gone ahead and started getting a rough idea of the NOBO hike into this awesome event. This is just what Im thinking. Nothing is set in stone and all are welcome to chime in and join. Happy Camper has added a Tab to the Official Spread Sheet for tracking but I just wanted a thread for the planning discussion.

So......there is the shuttle issue. MML and I have briefly discussed renting a van. Im working on the details of this now. Once we see who all is interested and if other options are available we'll make a final plan. If this were to be the way a starting point off Va 522 near Lake Front Royal might be convienient. Also parking the early birds cars at Gathland may not be possible. Perhaps at the Weverton Trail head. Its a nice lit lot, I have used it many times.

As far as a basic plan. Looking at the 2012 data book etc.

    Monday:
Allowing time for travelers and etc.

Starting at 522 to Manassas Gap: 10mi
or on to Dicks Dome: 15 mi

    Tuesday:
Shoot for Sam Moore Shelter (30.5) 15 mi

    Wednesday:
Short hike to Bears Den Hostel. Heard they have great food. Maybe a lil pricey. Maybe a stop at the PATC Balckburn Center??
Then on to David Lesser Shelter (44.6) 14mi

    Thursday:
Head for Ed Garvey (60) 15mi
Stop in Harpers Ferry at The ATC. Maybe grab a beer or an Ice cream cone on the way.

    Friday:
Easy stroll into Gathland. (65) 5mi

Again this is just a quick rundown. Open to discussion and rework. The pup and me are easy going. Love to wander and check out all there is to see. Plenty of water and overlooks along the way per the Data book but Ill put some more time in on the forums about current situations. It would be nice to have a general idea of the plans for those joining in along the way.

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

What about just paying someone for a shuttle. That's just a suggestion. That way no logistics of getting the van returned would be needed. I'm in for NOBO with ben ( my dog ). I may be hitch hiking down that way to start. Not because I have to but cause I can. That and I'm hiking NOBO out of MAHHA anyway. I'd have no idea as to where to leave my vehicle as I have no plan on how far North we will hike. Life is good. No worries.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Thanks on the info Happy Camper. It looks like shes 1.5 hrs from the trailhead. Once we get a "how many". We might give her a ring.

    So far it looks like..

3 hikers and 2 best friends. With the hopes of many more!

    NOBO or SOBO for me?

    Hey 2Tall,

As soon as I figure out which way I'm hiking in I'll shoot you a pm. PenMar park is looking good to me SOBO, but I might meet you guys up @ Harpers. Just not sure of the logistics yet.

Some SOBO support, yeah! So far, only me and BlackWolf are thinking SOBO. Show some support here:
