I've never done it myself, but I've read (somewhere) that you just sew the zipper on directly to the netting where you want it to go, against a backing fabric THEN you cut the netting... sounds useful

    Good luck on your journey

Hit up DIYGearSupply.com - scott has some netting for sale - try emailing him and seeing what he's got on hand that matches what you've got on your gear (he probably already knows){he's just getting back from being on vacation though, so expect a short delay as he gets caught up on shipping and emails} -
buy a few yards (enough to 'mirror' your desired finished product) and a zipper - then go to town on the stuff you bought - if you screw it up - who cares, you only spent a few $ on it, and you'll learn ALOT in the process.

good luck on your journey - show us pics when you get them
    cheers -

IMO check the cost of doing it your self. Zippers can be wicked expensive. You might find by the time you buy the materials Zq can do it for not much more and then you get it done right. The economies of scale do not favor you in this situation.

I did it with a #3 zipper from DIY Supply, it wasn't as easy as I had hoped. On my model, the black triangle of fabric where the tie-outs go is on the bias compared to the zipper, if it is so on yours, make sure you strengthen the area, otherwise the zipper backing will be taking most of the weight when you swing your legs over the side. I ended up replacing that piece with one not cut on the bias, but it's still not as burly as i would like.

    zipper diy

I cut the bug net down one side of my Hennessy, stopping about 6" from each end. It was necessary to sew a piece of grossgrain to the length of the cut bug net to reinforce it. Then I sewed a piece of the generic roll zipper stock available at any fabric store, to the bug net grossgrain and side of the hammock body. It was easy, and has lasted two years with out any problems.
