    Transparent Tarp

For those of us who like to look up into the clouds, has any one attempted a transparent tarp?

I was thinking (if weight and pack size wasn't an issue) of some sort of PVC material, sort of what those nice smelling anoraks are made from

    You mean like this?

This tarp is made from Mylar, not PVC. The weight is reasonable, but I don't recall it off-hand (Here is the original thread with more details). There are some issues with it; most notably the lack of compressibility...there is none! However, it's a fun tarp. I've taken it out many times since it was built and haven't had any major problems with it. "Transparent" is a little misleading. You can see Genuine Draft pretty clearly because she is standing right next to the tarp wall, but add a little distance and the clearness dissipates quickly. It is not like a glass pane, nor even close. Kind of like looking through a frosted bathroom window; little bit better than that, but you get the idea.

No sewing required, just tape. It's a novelty tarp for me, but among my favorites.
    Trust nobody!

I used to sleep under a clear poly 4mil tarp, it was usually good for about 6 trips before I would replace it. I enjoyed being able to see the sky. For tie out attachments I would use a small rubber ball on the inside and tie the lines around the plastic on the other side.

If you use a transparent tarp, get dressed in the basement.

At a time of the year when I don't do straight lines, but zig and zag from shady patch to shady patch, this is unthinkable. HYOH.

won't be long before someone figures out how to make a transitional tarp - like glasses that get darker in the sun, then lighter inside. When the sun sets the tarp turns clear, when it rises the tarp turns dark.
